Garry Sloan, tenor
Mr. Sloan is an accomplished singer, conductor and educator. His singing has been described as "warmly liquescent and elegantly phrased" by Scott Cantrel (OperaNews Online). His credits include Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème, Ferrando in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte, Tybalt in Gounod’s Romeo et Julietta and Beppe in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. He has also performed a wide range of oratorios, among them Handel’s Creation, Messiah and Lord Nelson Mass, Verdi’s Requiem, Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël, Dvořák’s Mass in D, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Beethoven’s Mass in C and Monteverdi’s Vespro della beata Virgine. Mr. Sloan has appeared with numerous professional, civic and collegiate ensembles, including Tulsa Opera, Summer Opera Theatre of Washington, D.C., Charleston (S.C.) Symphony Chorus, Congressional Chorus, Taylor Festival Choir, Oklahoma City Philharmonic and the Edmond Community Chorus. His training has included Master Classes with famed mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne and baritone Sherrill Milnes.
In 2003, Mr. Sloan was a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. From 2005 until 2008 he was tenor soloist for National City Christian Church in Washington, D.C., and now serves in the same post for Bruton Parish Church of Williamsburg, Va.
