Pamela Armstrong, soprano

Richmond native Pamela Armstrong has performed internationally with the Metropolitan Opera and the Vienna State Opera on tour in Beijing, China; Opéra Bastille in Paris, Opéra Municipal in Marseilles, Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Bordeaux’s Grand Théâtre and Opéra de Avignon in France; Trieste’s Teatro Giuseppe Verdi and Torino’s Teatro Regio in Italy; Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Dresden Staatsoper, Hamburg Staatsoper and Stadttheater Giessen in Germany; Opera de Oviedo in Spain in such diverse roles as the Countess (Figaro), Donna Anna, Arabella, the title roles in Handel’s Alcina and Massenet’s Thaïs, Pamina, Micaëla, Anne Truelove, the Daughter in Paul Hindemith’s Cardillac and her signature role as Magda in La Rondine. She made her 2003 Glyndebourne Festival debut as Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus; this production was released in DVD format by the BBC.

Ms. Armstrong was awarded the prestigious Betty Allen Prize by New York City Opera in 2005 in recognition of her critically acclaimed work in several NYCO productions. Within the U.S. she has also performed with Los Angeles Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Seattle Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Opera Colorado, Opera Pacific, Michigan Opera Theater; the San Diego, Pittsburgh, Portland, Tulsa, and Palm Beach Operas; Connecticut Grand Opera and Opera Grand Rapids as Violetta, Mimí, Marguerite (Faust), the Countess in both The Marriage of Figaro and Capriccio, Fiordiligi, Donna Elvira, Donna Anna, Elvira (I Puritani), Tatyana in Eugene Onegin, the title role in Floyd’s Susannah, the Four Heroines in The Tales of Hoffman, Alice Ford and Magda with Michigan Opera Theater, Lyric Opera of Boston and NYCO. Past concert work includes appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia, the Detroit and New Jersey Symphony Orchestras and at the Aspen Music Festival.

Ms. Armstrong’s upcoming opera engagements for the 2009-2010 season include the MET, Pittsburgh and Palm Beach Operas, and her debut with Austin Lyric Opera. She now resides in Tampa Bay, Fla.
